Sundays- What to Expect

Join us this Sunday!

Please visit our staff page here to get to know our clergy and staff!

Anyone can visit St. John's. If you enjoy a traditional worship service with great music and a more welcoming feel, St. John's might just be the place for you! We are open to anyone who enters our sanctuary doors, no matter your dress, age, race, religious background, or sexual orientations. We take you just as your are.

A Service of Word and Table
8:15 - 9:15 a.m.

This service offers an abbreviated traditional service of worship that includes the weekly celebration of Holy Communion. Typically a small gathering, it is intimate and reflective in nature.

Sunday School
9:15 - 10:15 a.m.

In the Wesleyan tradition, St. John's United Methodist Church offers a graded Sunday School program, with a nursery facility for infants and toddlers and classes for all ages and interests. Classes begin at 9:15 a.m. and end at 10:15 a.m. each Sunday. For location and subject matter, please see our Sunday School page.

Fellowship and Light Refreshments
8:45 - 10:15 a.m.

Coffee and hot water (for tea or cocoa) are provided in the Garden Room (see map) for all to enjoy.

A Service of Word and Music
10:30 - 11:30 a.m.

This service offers traditional liturgical worship with hymns, prayers of the people, a children’s sermon, scripture lesson and sermon. Holy Communion is served the first Sunday of each month. Throughout the academic year the Chancel Choir leads the congregation in worship and presents anthems, and the Choral Scholars offer Acts of Praise.

Children and their families are encouraged to experience weekly worship services together.  Activity folders as well as children’s bulletins are available at all services and help children keep focused during the worship and sermon.  These are located in the Narthex and hall outside the sanctuary.

St. John's is located right across from Texas Tech University. We are on the corner of University Avenue and 15th. You can find us by looking for our rainbow banners hanging outside of our sanctuary. When visiting St. John's, you can park right out front or the south parking lot. You enter through the sanctuary doors on Sundays, right below the rainbow banners.

What else?

We are casual at St. John's so feel free to wear whatever attire feels best. Some guests are in jeans and others a little more formal, so you'll fit in just the way you are. Once inside, you are welcome to sit wherever you feel comfortable. Please make sure to sign in when the sign-in book reaches you. Our members are very friendly and might stop and say hi to new faces right after service. We simply want you to know you are welcome. If you'd like to learn more about St. John's, consider joining Rev. Kevin Young at St. John's 101 each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Garden Room. Feel free to ask anyone if you have any questions.

We're looking forward to meeting you!
